SECOND LOOK COLLECTION
This limited edition collection of archival prints produced from vintage images made by rural American reporters and photographers from the small town newspaper, The Cynthiana Democrat in Harrison County, Kentucky, from 1957 through 1961, is only available here at the Paris Photo Gallery.
Boyd’s Station, a nonprofit arts and journalism organization in Harrison County, Kentucky, acquired and preserved this historic and priceless collection before it was lost due to the newspaper’s downsizing and moving from its long-time offices.
Currently, the process of cataloging and archiving the nearly 2,500 vintage 4-inch x 5-inch black and white negatives which were created by reporters and photographers nearly 60 years ago before being filed away is taking place to ensure this collection is preserved.
The limited edition prints offered here are likely the only prints ever made from these negatives since the photographs were printed in the newspaper over sixty years ago.

FRENCH PATTERSON COLLECTION
French Patterson was a prominent photographer known for capturing the essence of Harrison County, Kentucky, and the broader Bluegrass region through his lens. Active from the early 1900s to the 1950s, Patterson's work provides a captivating glimpse into the daily life, landscapes, and people of this area during a significant period of American history.
Born in Harrison County, Patterson developed a deep connection to his homeland, which is evident in the intimate and authentic portrayal of his subjects. His photographs often depicted scenes of rural life, agricultural activities, and the natural beauty of the Kentucky countryside. Patterson had a keen eye for detail and composition, which allowed him to create images that resonate with a sense of nostalgia and cultural richness.

PROJECT 306.36 Collection
The Boyd’s Station 306.36 Visual Documentary program is an annual archive project contributing to a visual time capsule of Harrison County, Kentucky.
The proceeds from the purchase of any photograph in the Project 306.36 collection will be donated directly to the nonprofit Boyd’s Station. Your support will help this wonderful organization continue to do great things in promoting journalism and the arts.
Student photojournalists are awarded annually the Reinke Grant and Tim Dillon Grant for Visual Storytelling to take part in the 12-week intensive visual documentary program to photograph the people and places of Harrison County, Kentucky.
The spirit of this project continues in the documentary tradition of the Farm Security Administration pictorial project’s recording of American life between 1935 and 1944.
